Who we are

In the heart of Norwich, The Garnet Pub & Stores has evolved from a cherished local pub to also a vibrant shop. Our position on the corner of Norwich Market offers a unique insight in to the local culture and economy of Norwich and we truly believe you won’t find a better place on a warm afternoon/evening to sit and watch the world go by.

The pubs building has seen two pandemics, two world wars and stands proudly with the kind of wiseness that only comes with age. As custodians of this extraordinary nook of Norwich, we are mindful of the history within these walls which officially became a drinking establishment in 1861 (originally called ‘The Baron of Beef’ from its previous life as a butchers).

During the challenges of the pandemic, we recognised the necessity to adapt and so transformed the pub into a shop that offered not only essentials (beer/wine!) but also an array of carefully selected local produce and crafted goods. When the unit next door laid empty we decided to take the plunge and open a new shop and ‘The Garnet Stores’ was born.

The Garnet stands as a testament to resilience and we are committed as a team to supporting each other and serving our patrons with the same warmth and dedication as we have for decades. We take immense pride in our position, fostering connections that celebrate the essence of our beloved region.

You know what March needs… good cake! And we have GOOD cake!

Matilda Rose Bakes brings delicious tray bakes to the Garnet Stores. The slices are moist, packed and generous. Starting off with a vegan Biscoff banana bread, a vegan and gluten free Apple & rhubarb crumble, and an outrageously good Morello cherry chocolate brownie, we’ll be trying out different flavours over the coming weeks to see what rocks your boat.

A good coffee or a pot of tea, a big slab of cake, and a calm warm spot in the centre of the city… worth popping on your raincoat.
