Why we love... Eliza East Ceramics

We always love to support local artists and creators here at the Garnet Stores, so we were thrilled to discover the wonderful ceramics of Eliza Battams. Fun and contemporary hand painted ceramics from candlestick holders to bud vases and available now in the Stores.

We caught up with Eliza for a quick chat about being a self employed ceramicist and what she loves about life here in Norfolk…

Hi Eliza, tell us a bit about yourself

I am Eliza, a 26 year old potter (or ceramicist), living in Norwich. I have lived in Norfolk most of my life and Norwich for the last 6 years. I work as a Florist part time and run my own business, East Creations alongside. I have always had a passion for the arts and I’m happy to be able to work two jobs I’m passionate about.

What made you set up your own business? (and where can we find you?)

I started Ceramics as a hobby just before the first lockdown, which meant when I was furloughed I had plenty of time to practice. My dad had a kiln from 20 years ago which he had kept in storage, so I was lucky enough to be able to learn the craft from home. Once I grew in confidence and ability I decided I would love to sell my pieces and make it into a business. You can find me online on my instagram @east_creations or my website www.eastcreations.co.uk I also stock in The Foodvault on Silver Road, the newly opened Ash Tree Therapies on Plumstead Road… and now The Garnet Stores :)

Who is part of your team?

I am currently a one woman team

What are your plans for the future?

I hope to increase my stockists, bring out exclusive one time ranges, and I would love to offer hand building workshops.

What’s the best thing about the area you live in?

I think the best thing about Norfolk for me is the creative community here, and how many independent shops and restaurants there are. I also love the countryside and coast.
