Why we love... Simon's Table

The Garnet Stores are proud to be the only Norwich stockiest shortbread and marmalade from Simon’s Table, all of which are homemade by Simon and his wife Nicola in their home in south Norfolk.

We caught up with Simon and Nicola to learn more about their business and what inspired Simon’s table.

Tell us a bit about yourself

Simon’s Table is based in Roydon, south Norfolk and is made up of husband and wife team, Simon & Nicola. Everything we sell is made in our kitchen at home and is made using British produced/ grown ingredients wherever possible. The products we sell are family favourites we have been making for years that people have encouraged us to sell. Simon’s Table was set up to derive an income and to better manage Simon’s integration with the wider world, which he finds extremely difficult because of his obscure neurodiversity.

Simon and Nicola are in their 60s and have two grown up sons.  Simon has been making his marmalade since 1985 because he couldn’t find the marmalade he was looking for on shop shelves.  Nicola has been making shortbread for nearly as long.  Nicola takes the lead in shortbread and cheesejack production with Simon in support whilst Simon takes the lead in marmalade and marmalade gin liqueur production with Nicola in support.  Simon tackles all technical issues within the business whilst Nicola tackles the neurotypical world that Simon finds too difficult.

What are your plans for the future?

We plan to keep Simon’s Table going into our retirement as a way of keeping fit and maintaining contact with some great people in the artisan food world.  Simon is also in the process of setting up a consultancy to enable a better understanding of living with a neurodiversity in a neurotypical world and the affect it has on the individual and the individual’s family.

What’s your favourite thing about the are you live in?

We feel the best things about Roydon and the surrounding area are its tranquility, its beauty, its amenities and its access to other parts of East Anglia and further afield.
